Hoka One One Clifton 6 Review

Specifications

Hoka One One is one of the newer shoe brands on the market. Established in 2009, the original goal of the company was to design a shoe that would be faster while traveling downhill. This innovative beginning led to an altogether great shoe, and they have continued to improve on the running shoe ever since. Hoka One One has evolved to create shoes for all kinds of activities and fitness levels. The Clifton 6 is designed to be a great road running shoe, and comes with all of the technology expected with the Hoka name.

Neutral Shoe with Wide Toe Box

The Clifton 6 is a neutral shoe, meaning that it does not provide extra stability support. If you have a more neutral pronation (as opposed to over-pronating), then a neutral shoe is a great choice. These shoes allow your foot to provide its own stability. The Clifton 6 also has a wide toe box, allowing for your toes to splay out comfortably. This also increases stability and can reduce the occurrence of blisters or plantar fasciitis. A wider toe box is also great if you experience swelling. With plenty of room for your toes, you’ll be able to run those extra miles more comfortably.

Great Shoe for a Moderate Arch

With a 5mm midsole drop, this shoe is a great choice for a moderate arch. Zero drop style shoes often don’t provide enough arch support, and other running shoe styles have more than double this drop. A runner with a very high arch may find this shoe lacking in support, but for those with a medium or moderate arch, this will be all of the support you need. The Clifton 6 also comes with Hoka’s Meta-Rocker technology. Based on geometry, they compare this tech to having wheels on your feet. Combined with their low heel-toe drop, this design complements a runner’s natural gait and helps propel the runner forward. This tech also gives you a smooth heel to toe movement. All combined, this shoe will increase your gait’s efficiency.

Extra Soft Cushioning

One of the most defining features of the Hoka One One Clifton 6 is the extra soft cushioning. Described by Hoka as “marshmallow soft”, the cushioned midsole is very plush while also staying lightweight. In fact, these shoes weigh only 7.4 ounces. This lightweight cushion means that you don’t sacrifice speed for comfort. The marshmallowy soft midsole also offers excellent shock absorption. Many runners noticed less back and knee pain while using these shoes, mostly attributing the improvement to the extra cushioning. This shoe is an especially great choice for the big and tall crowd. The cushioned midsole holds up great to all sorts of body types doing a wide variety of activities. Walking or running, short or long distances, these shoes will keep your feet happy. A few users complained that the Clifton 6’s treads seemed to wear out more quickly than other brands. However, many found these shoes to last just as long as other running shoes (often about 6 months for moderate, daily runs). There were also a few complaints that the upper was not very breathable, creating hot spots and friction. This led some users to experience foot discomfort and blistering, even though the shoe’s cushion had improved other aches and pains. Overall, though, runners love this shoe for its comfort and lightweight feel.

Variety of Styles

The Clifton 6 has many great color options. Whether you are looking to stand out in Nebulas Blue and Lemon or prefer shades of gray, this shoe has a look that you will love. It also comes in both regular and wide sizes. Combined with the wide toe box, this shoe is an excellent option for runners with larger feet. Hoka One One was founded in order to improve your run. With innovative technology and excellent comfort, the Clifton 6 is a great all-around running shoe. Neutral runners who need some extra cushion will not be disappointed in the speed and lightweight feel of this shoe. Even though this brand is relatively new, the Hoka One One Clifton 6 should not be overlooked. SEE ALSO: HOKA ONE ONE Clifton 7
