Training runs & exploring new areas

These are casual training runs; distance and required fitness will vary. Details will be advised by newsletter. Or organise one yourself, and email the newsletter editor at info@runtrails.org

Regular club trail runs

Southside

Brisbane River City Runners run in Toohey Forest every Saturday from 6am. Once a month they have a great post-run breakfast. Call them before you show up, in case they’re away at a special event.

Northside

The Run Inn has group runs in Bunyaville State Forest every Saturday from 7am. Check out the Bunyaville map.

Also check out Bunyaville Trail Runners who run every Wednesday night from  5.30pm & also the occasional Monday night Camp Mountain run.

Westside

The Sherwood Forest Run happens 7am sharp every Saturday from Jolimont St. You might even meet someone famous at this one.

Eastside

If you know any regular trail runs on the eastside, please let us know.

Other great training spots in Brisbane

Mt Coot-tha is the obvious urban choice. You can get a rough map of the trails from the EPA website.

Brisbane Forest Park is just beyond Mt Coot-tha. It is ideal for longer runs and the excellent map can be purchased from the Brisbane Forest Park headquarters on Mt Nebo Road at The Gap.

There are numerous suburban bushland reserves scattered around Brisbane, like Banks St Reserve, Daisy Hill (Brisbane Koala Bushlands), Karawatha Forest and Whites Hill Reserve. Some of them are small, but that just makes them easy to explore thoroughly! The Brisbane City Council website has a page dedicated to Natural Areas, with full descriptions of your local bushland areas and free downloadable track maps.

Experienced runners may like to explore more remote trails around Rainbow Beach, Mt Mee, Mt Glorious, Mapleton, Cooloola, Lamington National Park, Moreton Island, Fraser Island etc.

We need your help

TRAQ would like to offer more events in more locations around Brisbane. The easiest way to test the suitability is to coordinate a training run in your favourite location. We can advertise this is in newsletter and go from there.

There’s nothing difficult about these events – all you need to do is turn up, run, and know the trail so no one gets lost. Perhaps if the area is complex, copy some maps. If you’re interested, talk to the committee or email info@runtrails.org

Women’s only training

TRAQ members organise occasional southside and northside GIRLS ONLY training runs. If you’re interested in participating or leading a group, please email Tamyka.

I will be in Brisbane (from USA) 11-12 September and would like to join a run or racing event. Can you tell me if there are any in the area. Shorter events like 5km or 10km — no more than 12km.

    Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
