Washpool/Gibraltar World Heritage Trail - 4 Apr 2009
New short trail and course $5
There’s a brand new trail in Gibraltar Range National Park, and its the best! The short course will now run over this trail, then those who are supporting the long course will bus down to Washpool area where you can lunch, watch the runners come in, and walk the rainforest trails.
You can see a preview of this great new trail here
About the race:
Its a big claim, but this new event offers the best combination of trails you’ll race anywhere in Australia this year. There’s a short course of 9km among the rainforest and streams of Washpool National Park. And a long option of 33km passing through the best features of both Washpool and Gibraltar Range National Parks!
Well formed trails and a relatively flat long course make for ideal trail running. This World Heritage Trail links an astonishing variety of landscapes. Beginning in the high granite country of the Gibraltar range, the trail starts alongside Dandahra Creek in dryer eucalypt forests, set amidst a broken collection of granite tors, then passes through a mosaic of subalpine wetlands and clear streams. Towards the finish in Washpool National Park, lush rainforests safeguard the largest remaining area of coachwood in the world.
The weekend will be based around the historic town of Glen Innes, with the countryside at its prettiest in autumn colours and an average daily temperature range in April of 10-22 degrees. On Sunday, a Glen Innes countryside fun run rounds out the weekend, and there are optional arranged meals and accommodation to help make your stay simple and fun. Maximum of 100 places. Plan for a weekend away on the 4-5 April 2009 (weekend before Easter) to experience this new world class trail run.
Also available is a supported two-day 40km trek around the World Heritage Walk for walkers, with your pack delivered to overnight camping.

Hi,
Am interested in the 2 day hike around Washpool National Park in 2010. Am unsure if anyone will be doing this. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Deb.
Will you be doing this the 33k run this year? If so when?
Yes and no - there will be both a 21k and 50k option in 2010, both on the Sunday 18th April. This run attracts a lot of regional entrants, and I found last year that many just didn’t have the fitness for a 33k course. Also the 21k route goes to all the best locations without crossing the road. The 50k takes in the whole World Heritage Trail loop. So its up to you which you prefer…
When are the 2010 entries opening?
Thanks
Glen
Hi Glen - in one or two weeks. I am just finalising the permit details. There is a new two day format with 8/21/50k course options on Sunday, 8k on Saturday.
