Hares & Hounds - Woodford Pool - Sun 10 Jan

Trail Runners - start off 2010 with the Hares and Hounds trail run on January 10th. Starting and finishing at the Woodford Swimming Pool in Peterson St, the event is conducted by TRAQ with some support and sponsorship ( random draw vouchers ) from Active Stride Sports Store. The hares will run solo from Woodford to Beerburrum and return starting an hour earlier than the Hounds ( start 4.30am ) who are 2 or 4 person relay teams. The 2 person teams change over at Beerburrum ( about 27-28km ) and the 4 person teams can change at or near checkpoints 7,6, 4a, 2 or the Lookout.

Each member of the 4 person teams must complete at least two legs ( there are 10 legs ) and they can do their legs together or separately. Hares may need a headlamp or torch for the first hour and relay teams should have food and fluid for their members just in case because Checkpoints will pack up after the last hare has passed through. If a hare is caught by all relay teams then the hare can be withdrawn at the next checkpoint.

There are also 5 and 10km fun runs on trails close to the pool starting at 7am. A simple BBQ will follow at the pool. Runners please ensure you wash the trail dirt/mud off using the showers before going into the pool. The event is meant to be fairly low key with no major awards because it can be hot and humid at that time of the year. A sports trainer will be on hand in case any runners start to show signs of heat stress. Of course we could get lucky and have cooler weather or even rain.

Because orders have to be placed for the BBQ, postal and on line entries will close on Tuesday, 5th January. Costs:- Hares $35 ; Relay members and 5/10km entrants $20 with 10% discount for TRAQ members and a special $10 rate for any school aged children in 5/10km events. Pool Entry Fee and BBQ included in cost for entrants. Family and friends who are non runners will need to pay pool entry on the day.
