New Run on World Heritage Trail - 4-5 April - Washpool/Gibraltar Range

Its a big claim, but this new event offers the best combination of trails you’ll race anywhere in Australia this year.  There’s a shorter option of 9km among the rainforest and streams of Washpool National Park. And a long option of 33km passing through the best features of both Washpool and Gibraltar Range National Parks!

Well formed trails and a relatively flat long course make for ideal trail running. This World Heritage Trail links an astonishing variety of landscapes. Beginning in the high granite country of the Gibraltar range, the trail starts alongside Dandahra Creek in dryer eucalypt forests, set amidst a broken collection of granite tors, passing through a mosaic of subalpine wetlands and clear streams. Towards the finish in Washpool National Park, lush rainforests safeguard the largest remaining area of coachwood in the world.

The weekend will be based around the historic town of Glen Innes, with the countryside at its prettiest in autumn colours and an average daily temperature range in April of 10-22 degrees.

On Sunday, a Glen Innes countryside fun run rounds out the weekend, and there are optional arranged meals and accommodation to help make your stay simple and fun. Maximum of 100 places. Plan for a weekend away on the 4-5 April 2009 (weekend before Easter) to experience this new world class trail run.

Also available is a supported two-day 34km trek around the World Heritage Walk for walkers, with your pack delivered to overnight camping.

Online entry opens Monday 16 February

Run looks amazing and hopefully I can get a group together to head down for the weekend. Is a part of Australia I have not seen and look forward to checking it out.

What about residents of Grafton area. There are a number of distance runners here. Is it possible for these people to not have to travel to Glen Innes first ?

    cheers

Lets talk and see what we can work out. As part of the permit and not imposing on other users, we can’t fill the national park with runner’s cars. Perhaps we can arrange a pickup point somewhere in or near the park, and collect Graftonite’s there by bus, returning them later?

Just clarifying the bus issue, yes with the amount of day parking at Mulligans, it is ok for local runners to drive direct to Mulligans. Take the right fork as you approach the camping area, which leads you to the day-use parking. There are two long bays, and further on a number of roadside bays on the right next to the day picnic area. Run registration is on the left at the Group Camping Area.
