Pinnacles Classic - Report
It was a pleasure to drive out to Gold Creek Road again, such a beautiful hidden corner of Brisbane, narrowing down as you wind further up the valley and the trees close in. Lots of local walkers and runners on the road too, even before the sun rose - lucky them. Lots of return faces at Pinnacles this year, and lots of new facs too with numbers doubling to over 60. Cobwebs and Spiders
One of most popular posts on Coolrunnings Trail and Mountain Running forum, in case you missed it: “Whilst running today through the bush I realised we need more trail runners - this has not come from some altruistic feeling of getting the nation fitter - I have purely selfish motives. I ate no less than five cobwebs today (thankfully ingesting no spiders but sampling a few spun flies) and it made me realise that even at 12pm I was the first runner to tread this Kuring gai chase trail today.
If we had more runners there would have been much more activity on this trail and I would not have had to crash through these spiders’ homes. I have devised a strategy to ward off webs which other runners in the same predicament may find helpful - a very light three foot stick waved in front whilst running anticipates and destroys any sticky obstructions - as long as the stick is light and you don’t mind looking like some tribal soothsayer laying rights then this is a highly effective remedy.
Anyone have any better solutions? Who will join my campaign to save the sticks and run the trails?

This is a tough 18k run held in Brisbane Forest Park on Saturday 18 April, with about 18 solid climbs in those 18km. The organiser Peter Holles bills it as a “runners run”, very informal and a great training outing. Starting at 7am, the cost $20 paid on the day and all funds raised go to charity. BBQ after run included. Run starts from Gold Creek Dam, at the end of Gold Creek Road, Brookfield. Contact: Peter Holles email: paholles@hotmail.com. 2008 report & pics: here

The first year of this new event got off to a very wet start last weekend, with nature asserting her right to have final say on the course when rivers became unpassable and trees fell across the access road to Washpool National Park. Even on the revised 33km course, runners found about 20 new rivers had sprung up across the flatter wetlands sections of the Gibraltar Range National Park.
