On Sunday we met the Minister for Sustainability (EPA, QPWD) Andrew MacNamara, the EPA’s Director General Peter Wall and a senior advisor. Andrew was very clear about his support for seeing some shared use of walking trails for larger events, and will keep informed on progress to get some locations identified at the first User Group meeting (see below).
We’d hoped for a positive response at this meeting, as ministers are generally much for conscious of wider goals like promoting active lives, tourism and regional communities than departmental staff, and we got it. This now gives us a lot more confidence that there will be progress in the user group, and we are busy looking at which new areas are most suitable for trails events.

This year saw the fourth staging of this “Run for Runners”!
Previously a secret to a small group of runners, the course climbs and drops 1,060 metres in a series of mean sharp hills, most with names which define their characteristics.
TRAQ meeting parks service and minister this week
On Thursday 24 April Don, Ian and Greg will meet with Jason Jacobi (District Manager - South East Region), Mr Ross McLeod (Director World Heritage and Partnerships) and Mr Wolf Sievers (Acting Director – Terrestrial Parks) from the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service. On Sunday, we follow this up with 15 minutes with Andrew McNamara, Minister for Sustainability and the QPWS, at the Bribie Community Cabinet meeting. Pre-meeting discussions have been much more positive than our permit negotiations this year, and we look forward to bringing you an update on Monday.

Sadly no, not a trail run, but as the one of the year’s biggest marathons it has so often been the scene of outstanding performances. Report and pics here . Coincidentally, the New York Times also has a very interesting online piece about Jean Benoit Samuelson who will compete in the American Olympic Marathon trials this Sunday at age 50. Click ‘Read more’ below, to read about Jean’s run at the trials…

This is easily one of the prettiest and flattest trail runs close to Brisbane. The cafe at Brisbane Forest Park headquarters opens at 9am Saturday and 8am Sunday too, so if you time it right you can start the day with a scenic jog round the reservoir, then finish off there.
