Lake Manchester Trails 2010 - Report & Results
The Lake Manchester trail run came into its own this year, with a big increase to 194 entries made up of 115 for the 21km course to the head of the lake and 79 for the 7km fun run. Word has finally got around the running scene about Brisbane’s beautiful but least-known lake. First up was the 7km fun run with Tom Hogbin home smartly in 30.43 just ahead of Keny Arcangeli in 31.06 and Mitchell Fullelove in 32.29. First female Sarah Glover followed shortly after for a clear win 33.36, followed by Bree Russell (35.09) and Vanessa Dellow (38.13). Download full results here

This run started in 2009 and spans the World Heritage-listed Gibraltar Range and Washpool national parks. A new 54km ultra course around the whole trail was added for 2010 to supplement last year’s medium course (now 25km) and short course (9km).

Wild Horse Criterium - Report
Thank you all so much for your participation over the weekend. Below are the results for all three races. Please contact me if you see any discrepancy and I’ll amend as necessary. They’ll also be viewable on the WildHorse website shortly.
The continued feedback I’m receiving suggests that everyone had a good time and the event as a whole was a success. Having said that, I’m keen to know of any ideas that would improve it (the chip timing won’t fail us next year!) so feel free to mail me with your views.
Hopefully you’re all recovering well. Catch you at the next one - Cheers, Alun

A beautiful day, with nice cool mist just before the start of the short courses, but those on the 55k and relay teams (hounds) would have appreciated the pool afterwards, cos it was steamy out there… Results are available here - did the hares outlast the hounds this year?!?

Bunyaville 7km - Sat 12 Dec - Report
We had a nice cool afternoon blow in, making for a very pleasant afternoon’s run. This event is run informally, as a come-and-try-it opportunity for trail running, since Bunyaville State Forest is so accessible. We had a good turn-out, with 44 in total, and a high number of locals, including family groups of all ages.

A great weekend for our 40th Anniversary. The weather was fine, the trail dry, no-one got lost (must be a first…) and we had 85 joining togethre for our Saturday night dinner and prizegiving at Binna Burra’s cafe. The final results are posted now, less one minutes adjustment to waves 2 and 3 of the 8.35 start. Thanks everyone for making it a great weekend!

Hearing the sound of light rain falling on the marquee in the early hours of the morning disappointed me, thinking competitors would stay home in bed, but not so. Numbers in most events doubled with morning entries. There were 109 competitors, made up of 12 Marathoners, 24 Half Marathoners, 15-15ks, 23-10ks, 20-6ks and 15-3ks. Last year I was asked about a distance longer than 3k but shorter than 12, so this new format was a trial, appearing successful.
The weather was periodically cloudy with showers, which is favoured over a steamy hot day. Generally, it was a good day for a run. The beach was clean and fresh with the water glistening and inviting. All the creeks remained banked with no creek crossings this year, hence no wet shoes… Read the full report on website “Geoff’s Runs”

Another tough day in paradise! Yes that’s some of our runners relaxing in the spa pool at Kingfisher lodge, Fraser Island. This group of four were tempted to enter by their BeachFit instructor Heidi, never having run further than 10km before. All four finished the 24km to Central Station, resisting the tempting fallback option of stopping half-way at Lake McKenzie. Jeanette’s blog has more pictures here
First home was Steve Page - fresh from blowing up in his first ever marathon on the Gold Coast (but still making 2.38!) Steve set a good standard for future years, finishing in 1:35. Fifth place went to our 4WD and finish crew, who had the pleasure of towing out a first-time visitor four times before we could get past him.
2009 was the first Fraser run for many years with a permit, starting small with 12 entrants. Next year we plan to add a short 12k option finishing at Lake McKenzie, which should temp a larger crew. Also we’ll move back to Sunday which works better for those driving up from Brisbane.
Results:
Steven Page - 1:35
Detlef Jeske - 1:50
Mark Armstrong - 1:50
Heidi Green - 1:58
4WD + finish crew - 2:05!
Jo-anne Deller - 2:11
Rod Stephenson - 2:58
Jeanette Maynes - 3:41
Emma Smolenaers - 3:41
Robyn Johnston - 3:41
Yvonne Phelan - 3:41
