Night Trail Run – Tues 12 Feb 7pm

(Update: deferred due to weather warnings, new date to be advised) After several discussions and some solid interest shown, it’s time to strap on the head torches and head to the Environmental Park on Tuesday 12th February at 7:00pm for a night trail run. We will be meeting at the Phelps Road entrance (off Caboolture River Rd) to minimise the disturbance to local residents. It should be a fun event.

Trailrunnermag’s Italian Dolomites issue

I have 15 copies as spot prizes for Mount Glorious next weekend thanks to the nice people at Trailrunner, and like the post below it shows some amazing places you can run if you are fit enough. See http://www.trailrunnermag.com/ for their website, click “Read more” below for sample pics running the dolomites – check out that last photo; they have fixed chains to haul yourself up some sections safely. Now that’s a view worth climbing for …

Classic mountain trails site

Here’s a New Zealander’s site which profiles some classic mountain routes (ie not races). Typical comment: “It is legal to run the Milford track at anytime, in any direction, and without asking anyone for permission (i.e. it is a public track in a national park, booking applies only to the huts), however you may wish to talk to DOC (Te Anau) first; also be sure you’re fit enough to do this trip as you will be unpopular if you get into trouble on the track. Make sure the forecast is good and that Dore Pass is clear of snow before you start!”

2.04.53 marathon by Gebrselassie

Another heroic performance; in cool conditions he set out to smash his own current world record, running 45 seconds under at 10km in 28.39! See commentary at http://www.iaaf.org

Lamington National Park trails weekend – Jan 18-20

Report from Saturday:
Well Coomera stream looked very different to last year’s idylic picture below, after the recent flooding. We learnt on our return that Illinbah Track was officially closed but with no sign at the trail entrance we blissfully headed down the valley at 6am.

Woodford Hares & Hounds Trail Run – Sun 13 Jan – Results

Hi everyone, thanks for rocking up to our first event for 2008.  It has grown a lot since last year and it’s thanks to the positive attitude of all runners that it was a success.  Not all audiences would be quite so accepting of a last minute course change. I hope you all had fun – I know I did. Final results here. Full event information here. Click Read more to see more including race pictures.

Mt Glorious 32km Mountain Trails Run – Sun 3 Feb

After protracted and difficult negotiations, we received a surprise approval to run this new event in northern Brisbane Forest Park on Sunday 3 February 2008. The final course is a tough 32km up to Mount Northbrook with a total climb of 1,500m and the same amount of descent. It includes attractive forested areas with runnable trails but some steep firebreaks too. Start is from the beautiful and well-equipped Cedar Flats picnic area.

Bogong to Hotham – Sun 6 Jan

A few recommendations from Coolrunning’s race forum: “Along with the Cradle Mountain Run, this rates as the best trail run I have done. I’ll be there for number 7″ – IDW. “Even though I am race director for another offroad ultra, b2h is THE BEST” – JoggerKev.
